Philippines mayor, son abducted and killed by communist rebels

Agusan Mayor Dario Otaza, 53, and his 27-year-old son Daryl were kidnapped by a dozen of armed men clad in National Bureau of Investigation uniforms seized them at a gunpoint from their residence in Butuan City, around 6.50 pm Monday. During investigation bureau denied operating in the area.

Otaza was a political ally of Cane who was working to end the insurgency in Loreto, a stronghold of the NPA ,the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.He partnered with the government after his surrender

New People’s Army guerrillas were blamed to be at the back of the incident.
