PhD student alleges she was raped by man since 2010

A 29-year-old woman, pursuing a PhD at a university here, has alleged that she was repeatedly raped by a man since 2010 on the pretext of marriage, police said today.

The woman in her complaint has said that the man, now 30-year-old, who, runs a stone granite factory in Jalore, had promised to marry her after she had met him in 2009, they said.

Since 2010 the victim, has claimed that she was raped by him in various hotels in Malviya Nagar area here, adding, he later retracted from his promise to marry her, police said.

After the man’s parents refused to get the two married, she yesterday approached the Jawahar Circle Police Station, they said.

On the basis of her complaint, a case under various sections of the IPC including 376 (rape) was registered against the man, they said.

The victim went through medical examination, they said, adding, police are trying to locate the man who was reportedly busy with his stone factory business.
