Mumbai: Twitter was buzzing on Monday after a woman posted picture of man who allegedly masturbated at her during the early hours in Colaba on Monday. According to the tweets shared by the woman who identified herself as Maryanna Abdo the incident occurred at 7:50 when she was walking along the streets in the area.
The accused escaped the spot as soon as she raised an alarm. Abdo who managed to click a picture of the accused soon after the incident posted it on twitter. The picture since then has been retweeted over a thousand times. The picture not only showed the accused but also two other passer-by who came to her aid after she raised an alarm. Abdo who describes herself as a writer is an expat living in Mumbai.
The Chief Minister’s Office taking note of the incident through their twitter handle asked Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deven Bhatri to look in to the incident. Abdo also shared the location of the incident when asked for the same for better investigation. Colaba police are also on the lookout for the accused based on the verbal complaint given by Abdo.
They are however yet to register an FIR in the case and will also be implementing relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) once they have recorded the statement.
Abdo was however exposed to criticisms from those who condemned her for sharing the picture instead of getting approaching the nearest police station for making a note of the incident.
While some other apologised to her and sympathised for being exposed to such an act in India. To which Abdo promptly replied that it had nothing to do with India and that such incidences happen everywhere.
There were also those who came forward to share similar experiences which they have been witnessed to. Abdo in her post specified that the accused escaped after she tried to nab him due to which she did not get an FIR registered in the incident immediately.
