UP panchayat polls: Over 7,000 liquor bottles seized, 4 held

Ghaziabad: As the panchayat polls are in progress in UP, police have seized over 7,000 bottles of illegal liquor in the last two days and arrested four persons.

The police seized 603 cartons containing 7,236 liquor bottles and arrested four inter-state bootleggers. The liquor is supplied to influence voters during elections.

SHO Sihani Gate Ranvir Singh said in view the fourth-phase of panchayat elections, police was maintain a tight vigil on the vehicular traffic so that ferrying of smuggled liquor could be checked.

On the intervening night of October 26 and 27, the police intercepted two trucks near Hindan Bridge in Raj Nagar extension area and found 565 cartons of liquor smuggled from Haryana.

Police arrested two smugglers– Balwan and Dilip- and both trucks used for ferrying the liquor were impounded.

On October 27, Kavi Nagar police stopped a car for checking in front of Govinpuram police chowki and found 28 cartons containing 336 bottles of Haryana-made liquor.

Driver of the car was arrested and the vehicle has been seized, SHO Kavi Nagar Ashok Shishodia said.

SHO Loni Border Virender Yadav said that 10 cartons of CMFL containing 120 bottles were found from a Maruti car in the wee hours of October 26.

Car driver was arrested and the vehicle has been impounded.

All the four bootleggers have been sent to jail.
