Pakistani singer Adnan Sami may become ‘Indian’

New Delhi: Pakistani Singer, Adnan Sami is set to become an Indian citizen. Earlier, he was allowed to stay in the country indefinitely when Pakistan government did not renew his passport. It is a blow to BJP ally Shiv Sena’s protested against Pakistani celebrities visiting India.

Adnan had come to India in 2001 on one-year visa and kept on renewing it. In May 2015, Sami approached Home Ministry and appealed not to deportation him as Pakistani authorities refused to renew his passport. His appeal was accepted on the humanitarian basis.

Sources revealed that Home Ministry has sought Attorney General’s view on granting him “citizenship by naturalisation”. AG said that Sami is eligible to be granted citizenship by naturalisation under Section 6 of The Citizenship Act, 1955.
