Pakistan executes four Peshawar school attackers

Islamabad: Pakistan on Wednesday executed four terrorists for their involvement in last year’s attack on a school in Peshawar.

“Four militants involved in the Army Public School attack were hanged in Kohat district prison on Wednesday,” Geo Tv quoted a Peshawar security official as saying.

This is the first time that convicts of a deadly terrorist attack were executed.

Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Monday signed the death warrants of the convicted terrorists.

The four were identified as Maulvi Abdus Salam, Hazrat Ali, Mujeeb ur Rehman alias Ali alias Najeeb Ullah, and Sabeel alias Yahya.

The mercy petitions of the four were rejected in August by President Mamnoon Hussain.

Hazrat Ali was convicted of involvement in collecting funds to carry out the school attack.

Najeeb Ullah transported suicide bombers for the attack, while Sabeel was involved in Pakistan Army Force base attack in Peshawar and abetment in the school massacre.

Maulvi Abdus Salam was found guilty of harbouring suicide bombers who were later used in the attack.

All four terrorists were active members of Toheedwal Jihad Group (TWJ) and admitted their guilt before the court.

The executions come as Pakistan prepares to observe the first anniversary of December 16 attack that killed at least 150 people, mostly children.
