Pak security forces seize huge cache of arms in Khyber

Peshawar: Pakistan security forces today seized a huge cache of arms that included anti-aircraft guns and launchers from a tunnel in the restive northern tribal region near the country’s border with Afghanistan.

Pakistan army, in a joint operation with the paramilitary Frontier Corps, seized the weapons from a cave-like-tunnel in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.

Security officials claimed that the weapons were hidden “skilfully” inside the tunnel.

They claimed that the weapons included anti-aircraft guns, Bazooka guns, heavy machine guns, Russian launchers, sub-machine guns, and also Indian-made Vikras automatic guns.

Gas masks, shell-proof jackets, wireless sets, telescopes and hand grenades were also found along with the weapons.

Khyber is one of the eight tribal regions in Pakistan’s Federally-Administered Tribal Areas.

In the volatile northern region, Pakistan Army has launched major operations to clear the areas of militants.

Commanding Officer Khyber Agency said that Operation Khyber-2 has almost ended and recovery and cleaning operations are going on now.
