J&K: The chief minister also issued directions for preparing a ’Concept Plan’ for establishing colleges of skill development, physiotherapy-cum rehabilitation, nursing training and emergency medical services at the South Campus.
Jammu and Kashmir government will appoint over 800 doctors and 4,000 paramedics within next four months, besides setting a medical college in Kashmir Valley’s Anantnag district.
“As many as 845 vacancies of doctors and 4,000 vacancies of paramedics in the state will be filled up over the next four months on a fasttrack basis,” an official spokesman said here.
The information was given to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed by Secretary Health Department M K Bhandari during the former’s visit to Kashmir University’s South Campus in Anantnag yesterday.
Bhandari informed the Chief Minister that land has been identified for setting up of new medical college at Anantnag and the indent placed before the authorities concerned. “We will be able to source funding after the Cabinet grants approval to change in the land use,” the official said.
Bhandari said the Anantnag District Hospital is fully equipped in terms of logistics and manpower and it will match the facilities extended in any district hospital in the state.
The Chief Minister directed the Health Department to complete modalities for taking over of Rehmat-e-Alam Hospital Trust at Anantnag so that it can be developed as a 50-bed hospital, which will ease pressure on the new 110-bed hospital.
Sayeed also asked the Health Department to make the Trauma Hospital at Bijbehara fully operational.

“The University should coordinate with Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department and prepare a Concept Plan so that new courses are started at an earliest,” Sayeed said while directing Vice Chancellor Khursheed Andrabi to make South Campus an advanced centre of higher education.
