Oscar Pistorius granted conditional bail after murder conviction

Wellington: Paralympics runner Oscar Pistorius has been granted conditional bail on Tuesday, less than a week after Supreme Court of appeal in South Africa found him guilty of murder for killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The double-amputee athlete’s lawyer had earlier said that Pistorius would launch an appeal against his murder conviction in South Africa’s highest court, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Last week, a senior judge of the South Africa’s supreme court of appeal overruled his previous conviction of culpable homicide by dismissing the athlete’s claim that he pulled his gun on Steenkamp as an act of defence.

Pistorius, who is known as the Blade Runner, was released on parole and placed under house arrest at his uncle’s house after serving almost a year in prison of his five-year sentence. He now faces a minimum 15-year jail sentence for murdering his girlfriend in 2013. (ANI)
