One injured in clash between TDP, YSRC supporters

Machilipatnam (AP): One person was injured after TDP supporters and a group of villagers, led by members of YSR Congress party, clashed at Pedda Karagraharam near here after a state minister was stopped from entering the village over land acquisition issue, police said.

Sub-inspector of Police Machilipatnam (Rural) Ramakrishna said the clash took place after residents of Pedda Karagraharam did not allow State Excise Minister K Ravindra, who was scheduled to inaugurate a panchayat office there as part of the ruling TDP’s ‘Jan Chaitanya Yatra’, to visit the village located near Machilipatnam in Krishna district.

The villagers, who are opposing government’s plan to acquire 14,500 acres of private land for Machilipatnam port and port-based industries, sought explanation from the minister on the status of the notification issued earlier this year on land acquisition.

Following this, groups of TDP supporters and the villagers led by YSR Congress party members came to blows, in which one person sustained injuries. The injured is said to be stable, he said.

No complaint has been filed in this regard, police said.
