Officials Asked to construct Six lakh toilets on Time

In a bid to boost to the villages to get all facilities, specifically individual toilets, and avoid the problem of open space toilets in villages, Telangana Government today directed the officials concerned to construct six lakh toilets in all the 10 districts on a war-footing.

As part of Swatch Bharath and Swatch Telangana, Panchayat Raj department has taken up the task of constructing these toilets and help the rural populace to avoid the inconvenience of open defection in villages. The Government at a high level meeting at Secretariat on the need for toilets for households in villages, asked the officials to construct them in just one year of time. Taking cue from Panchayat Raj Minister KT Rama Rao, Principal Secretary Raymond Peter, here on Wednesday held a review meeting with department officials and directed them to expedite the process of constructing the toilets.

‘We need to construct six lakhs of toilets as prevent open defaction, he asserted. Peter also asked the officials to prepare district-wise plans to meet the target. The district level officials should coordinate with mandal and village officials and staff for smooth and speedy completion of the project, he said. The Principal Secretary also asked the officials to make use of funds to build the toilets with quality and provide them to the people on completion. There shall not be any compromise on quality and any dereliction will see serious action, he warned. Raymond Peter sought to know the details at the earliest and asked them to implement the plan of action and avoid open defection in Telangana State. It is likely that the government may further take up similar works in second phase and focus on other amenities.(NSS)
