No special tag, Centre to Jagan: YSRCP’s AP bandh on Aug 29

Hyderabad: Even as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is exerting pressure for special status tag for Andhra Pradesh, Centre has watered down his hopes. This is so according to YSR Congress Party MP Mithun Reddy.

The Centre in its reply to YSRCP Chief and Opposition Leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s missive for the same, made it clear that it cannot offer special category status. Mithun Reddy told a media conference that the Centre refused to budge on their demand for special tag.

He slammed the Telugu Desam MPs for not disclosing the letter written to Jagan Reddy by Ashish Datha, deputy secretary of Union Home Ministry. In protest against the Centre’s attitude, the YCP will observe state bandh on Aug 29, he said and asked the people to cooperate.

Reddy further stated that the Centre has said in the letter that the new state has  already got everything as per Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and  it will not give special status and special allocations there by. Though the opposition was  crying foul  and continuing its tirade on the Centre, the BJP Government is reluctant to give it,  he said. He sought the peoples’ cooperation for the party’s state bandh on Aug 29  in support of   the same demand.(NSS)
