No need to reconsider reservation for ST, SC and minorities: RS Prasad

New Delhi: Asserting that the government believes in economic and social development, Union Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday said there is no need to rethink on reservation for ST, SC and the minorities.

“Our government does not support any reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or the minorities. It believes that it is important for economic and social development and there is no need for re-consideration on this,” Prasad said.

“Suggestion is welcome regarding the people who do not belong to this section and it is important to do something for their development,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party ( BSP) chief Mayawati today slammed the BJP-led NDA, saying if Prime Minister Narendra Modi or his government acts on the directions of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) then her party would stage nationwide protest.

In an interview to RSS mouthpiece ‘Organiser’, its chief Mohan Bhagwat had suggested setting up of a committee with representatives from civil society to examine who needs the facility of reservation and for how long. (ANI)
