NHRC issues notice to Andhra Govt. over reports of assault on woman Tehsildar

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Andhra Pradesh Police on the basis of media reports that a woman Tehsildar from Krishna district was beaten by an MLA of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and an alleged sand mafia in the presence of policemen on July 9.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim. It has given two weeks’ time to the officers of the State Government to submit a factual report.

According to media reports, the Tehsildar had gone to the site of sand mining in the district to put an end to commercialization of sand mining activity.

The MLA reached the spot and objected to her action and assaulted the woman officer.

The policemen present there did not take any step to protect the victim. (ANI)
