New Delhi, Dec. 9 : The Congress on Wednesday said it has full faith in the judiciary as far as the delivery of the judgment on the National Herald case is concerned, but charged the NDA Government at the Centre of diverting the nation’s attention from core issues like the state of the economy and deflation etc.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the party and its leadership has always accepted the political challenges thrown by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We respect the process of the court. Shrimati Sonia Gandhi, Shri Rahulji and the entire Congress Party will submit to the jurisdiction of the court. But the Modi government, through their core committee member Subramanian Swamy, who is only a Mukhota (mask) for Narendra Modi, wants to divert the attention of the country from core issues of the economy, deflation, of manufacturing sector not picking up, of jobs not getting created, of agrarian crisis, of government falling even on the foreign policy front,” Surjewala told ANI here.
Surjewala further added that the Congress Party’s voice has never been subjugated to such oppression and never will.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi have been asked to appear in a Delhi Court on December 19 in connection with this case.
The summons were issued to them on a criminal complaint lodged by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds in acquiring ownership of now-defunct daily National Herald.
The Congress leaders own a stake as directors in YIL, registered as a charitable company, as per the complaint.
The complaint alleged corruption in the assigning of loan worth Rs. 90.25 crore owed to the Congress by Associated Journals Limited (AJL), publisher of the National Herald, to YIL for Rs. 50 lakh. (ANI)
