Muslims denied rental houses in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Of late, it has come to be known that many house owners and apartment associations are refusing to give houses on rent to the Muslims. This trend of communal discrimination is on the increase in the city and in the out skirts. During the past few days complaints have been received from Begumpet, Panjagutta, Banjara Hills, Vijay Nagar colonies and other areas that on some pretext or the other, Muslims are being denied rental houses. In order to justify this trend, the owners are creating an impression that Muslims are not being denied rental houses on the basis of their religion but due to their habits.

A lady working in a multinational company in the city had to face this difficulty. She could not get a flat in Begumpet area since she was a Muslim. She faced the same difficulty in Vijay Nagar colony also. Various instances have came to notice in which the apartment owners refused to give flats to non-vegetarians. They contend that in addition to their meat eating habits, there will be issues like bringing the dead bodies in the flats. They say that Muslims getup early in the morning and go to bed late at nights and they do not maintain cleanliness. Such trends are violation of Human Rights. The victims of such circumstances should approach Human Rights Commission and apprise them of these discriminations so that communalism should not increase in the city of Hyderabad which is known for its communal harmony.
