Mouzams, Imams in Telangana & AP to get monthly honorarium

Hyderabad: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have decided to pay monthly honorarium to Mouzams and Imams, State Minorities Commission said here today.

Abid Rasool Khan, Chairman of the Commission, which serves both the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, told reporters here the scheme should be implemented shortly.

“While the Telangana government has agreed to pay a monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 to Mouzams and Imams with a budget of Rs 12 crore and a cap of 5,000 applications, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced payment of Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000,” Khan said.

According to him, the last date for filing of applications with the district minorities’ welfare officers is December 30.

“The Commission expresses its appreciation for both the governments and recommends to the Telangana government to enhance the honorarium amount to minimum of Rs 5,000 in the next financial year,” Khan said.

He said the Commission conducted socio-economic survey of Mouzams and Imams in the two states, during which applications were collected from about 8,000 mosques.

Recommendations were made to both the governments for payment of honorarium, he said.
