Mob sets vehicles on fire after girl dies in road mishap in Kushinagar

Death of a girl student in a road accident on Monday led to violent protest in Kasya area here where mob set several vehicles including a roadways bus and a police out post on fire. Deepika Chowdhury (21) was killed this morning when her cycle was hit by a truck on the national highway-28 near Vishunpuri tri-section in Kasya area here, police said. The girl was on her way to college. The truck driver managed to escape the spot along with the vehicle.

Agitated with the incident, the students and local residents went on a rampage and set several vehicles including a roadways bus and five motorcycles on fire. They also vandalised the Kushinagar police outpost and set it on fire, after which police resorted to lathicharge to control the situation.

Situation is under control and police cleared the highway, on which traffic has resumed.
