Missing journalist will not be arrested when he returns: CM

Haldibari(WB): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has ordered a CID probe into the case of a north Bengal journalist who went missing, today said he will not be arrested when he returns.

“Someone can go away on his own,” she said to queries by reporters here.

“I know everything but I will not say anything,” was her cryptic reply to more questions.

Chayan Sarkar, a reporter of Bengali daily Uttarbanga Sangbad, has been missing from near his home in Alipurduar town since the morning of August 2 after eight persons named by him in an FIR for issuing threats for writing a college admission bribery story, were arrested.

Sarkar’s notebook, scooter and purse were found lying in a place.

Banerjee had ordered the CID probe on August 3 and had sent IGP, North Bengal, Gyanwant Singh to Alipurduar.

The CID had said yesterday that it has some leads on the whereabouts of the missing journalist and rubbished the news of finding the scribe at a Guwahati hotel as “rumours”.
