Mishra calls for fight against BJP

West Bengal opposition leader and CPI(M) politburo member Surjya Kanti Mishra today called for uniting democratic and secular forces of the country to fight against the “communal” BJP.

“Congress is not a communal party but it does not believe in the kind of secularism we talk about. But there are people within the Congress who believe in democracy and secularism,” he said.

“We have to strive to form a bigger platform with all these people in a bid to continue the struggle for democracy and secularism in the country,” he said.

Speaking at a programme, Mishra said, “Former union ministers Jairam Ramesh and Mani Shankar Aiyar were different from other Congress leaders”.

“Time has come, whether we will fight on our own or we will unite all the democratic and secular forces to continue our fight against the ruling party in the state and the centre.
