Mirwaiz Farooq welcomes decision to hold Indo-Pak talks

Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday welcomed the resumption of talks between India and Pakistan on all issues including Kashmir, saying dialogue is the “most effective way” of resolution of contending issues.

“Hurriyat has always stood for meaningful talks between the two countries and believes that dialogue is the most effective way of resolution of the contending issues,” he said. Addressing a seminar organised by the Jammu Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) on International Human Rights Day here, the Mirwaiz urged the leadership of both the countries to involve the Kashmiri leadership in talks so that “a just, long-lasting and dignified solution to Kashmir dispute is arrived at while keeping the wishes and aspirations of the people in mind”.

Terming Kashmir as the core issue between India and Pakistan which had kept the two countries in a confrontation mode for the past over six decades, the Mirwaiz said other issues like Siachen and Sir Creek were the derivatives of this basic issue. Breaking the logjam in their ties, India and Pakistan had yesterday announced that they have decided to engage in a “comprehensive” dialogue that will include peace and security and Jammu and Kashmir.
