Minority Welfare officials rake in money from fee-reimbursement budget

Following government’s direction to expedite implementation of Minority Welfare schemes, it has been decided to release the arrears of 2014-15 during the current year. Secretary Minority Welfare Syed Omer Jaleel directed the concerned officials to resolve all pending applications of the last year and issue budget.

Current year government had allocated Rs. 100 Cr. for post matric scholarship of which 50 Cr. have been released out of which Rs. 25 Cr have been issued for scholarship.

Rs. 425 Cr were earmarked for fee-reimbursement scheme of which 90 Cr. have been released out which Rs. 83 Cr. have been transferred to various colleges. However government has received a lot of complaints regarding the above tow schemes.

It is said that since the fee-reimbursement scheme amount is released directly to the colleges hence the concerned officials demand commission for release of amount. Until the demand is not met by the college the amount is not issued. College administrators revealed that they are helpless to pay the commission to the officials otherwise they have to make rounds of the offices. Thus fee-reimbursement scheme has become a good source of income for concerned officials.
