Minor Muslim girl’s marriage with Omani citizen foiled

Hyderabad: Poor Muslim parents sold out a minor Muslim girl aged 17 years in the name of marriage due to poverty. The incident occurs in Old City’s Rain Bazar area. An Omani citizen, Al-Balushi Badar Younus Sayeed (37) paid Rs. 30000 for arranging his marriage with a minor girl. He had also promised to pay Rs. 15000 per month for hiring a house for that family. He had also promised that he would pay Rs. 5 lakh after going to Oman. At the eleventh hour, the girl escaped. Her mother is said to be a divorcee. She is a servant maid. She used to earn money by working in various houses to take care of her three children. Police is actively in search of a woman who was the mediator in this case.

It is a big question mark for the Muslim intellectuals and leaders to take immediate steps for making marriages simple. The campaign initiated by Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of Siasat is gaining popularity but there are still some families who are not adhering to Islamic principles. It is regrettable that the Muslims are selling their daughters for the sake of pretty amounts. It is the responsibility of the Muslim Reformers and Leaders to popularize Islamic principles to celebrate marriages in a simple manner.
