Minor girl gang-raped in Punjab, 5 youths booked

Kapurthala: A 17-year-old girl has allegedly been raped by five youths in a car here in the district, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred last evening when the girl had gone to a local bazaar where she met her sister-in-law, who was accompanied by five youths, police said.

The girl in her complaint has alleged that the youths, who live in her neighbourhood, took her in a car to some place and raped her last night, Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajinder Singh said today.

Later on reaching home the girl narrated the ordeal to her parents who lodged a complaint with the police, following which the accused youths were booked, he said.

“We have booked the five youths, all of whom are in the age group of 18-22 years. A rape case under relevant provisions of the law has been registered. As per preliminary investigations in the case, the role of the girl’s sister-in-law is also under scanner,” the SSP stated.

“We have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to further probe the case. Besides a SP rank officer, a DSP, SHO (women cell) will conduct an in-depth probe,” he said.
