MCD workers protest outside LG house, demand pending dues

New Delhi: The MCD sanitation workers today staged a demonstration in front of Lt Governor Najeb Jung’s residence and threatened to stop work if their “long pending” demands of regularisation and payment of arrears are not met soon.

Under the banner of United Front of MCD Employees, an umbrella organisation of unions of sanitation workers employed by the three municipal corporations of Delhi, the protesters demonstrated in front of Lt Governor’s residence and torched effigies raising their demands.

“We have been demanding regularisation and payment of arrears since long but the MCD officials are not listening,” said Rajender Mewati, vice president of Akhil Bhartiya Mazdoor Congress.

He said that the sanitation workers have not been regularised since 1998.

The demonstrators also threatened to stop work if their demands are not soon met by the concerned authorities.

A meeting of sanitation workers will be held on Gandhi Jayanti in which a decision regarding strike could be taken, said leaders of Akhil Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh.
