MBT condemns police “over-action” on OU Beef Festival issue

The Majlis Bachau Tahreek has strongly condemned the alleged over-action by Hyderabad City Police in preventing leaders and representatives of different political parties and organisations from attending a meeting in Osmania University on proposed Beef Festival

MBT Youth Leader Amjed Ullah Khan, along with 10 other MBT workers, was arrested from their office in Chanchalguda on Saturday morning. Amjed Ullah Khan said a large contingent of police personnel came to his office in the morning and informed that he was being taken into preventive custody so as to prevent him from entering OU premises. Strongly objecting to it, the MBT leader argued that he must be served a notice by the OU police or concerned DCP if his entry was banned in the Osmania University campus while explaining the reasons. However, he was not in receipt of any such notice or intimation, he said.

The police officials told him that he was being taken into preventive custody on the instructions of higher officials. Thus, Amjed Ullah Khan and 10 other workers were taken into custody and taken to Dabeerpura Police Station. They were released in the evening at about 7 PM.

Speaking to media persons later, Amjed Ullah Khan described his arrest as the clear example of police high-handedness. “City Police is still silent on the provocative statements being issued by BJP MLA Raja Singh. Instead of putting him behind the bars, police is trying to foil meetings of those who are opposing Raja Singh,” he said adding that MBT would confront Raja Singh everywhere and foil his alleged attempts to communalise the atmosphere in the city.
