Mau rape: BJP says UP Police always failing to catch accused

Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday critcised the Uttar Pradesh Police for failing to catch the rape accused after an 18-year-old rape survivor was shot dead in Mau.

“Whether it is Sitapur, Mau or Basti, in all these places, the victims were asked to compromise with the accused and they were killed if they denied to compromise. The Additional Director General said that the police will slap the Gunda Act on the accused,” UP BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai told ANI here.

“One will slap the Gunda Act only after it catches the victim. It has been four days, but the police has not been able to catch them,” he added.

Bajpai further criticised the Samajwadi Party leaders for commenting in favour of the rapists, saying that when their leaders comment in favour of rapists, then, how can the district administration act against them.

An 18-year-old rape survivor was shot dead yesterday, two days before she was to appear as witness in court, allegedly by bike-borne youths in Baijapur village in the Dakshintola area.

The girl’s family alleged she was killed on the orders of the accused, police said. (ANI)
