Man wanted in 5yr old rape case arrested

New Delhi: A man accused of abducting and raping a 14-year-old girl five years ago and who was on the run since, was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’ Bulandshehar district by a special team of Delhi Police.

Sunil Kumar (30) was arrested from his native village Khurja near Bulandshehar yesterday in a raid by the AATS team of southeast district of Delhi Police.

According to police, in 2010 he had allegedly abducted the girl from her house in Okhla area and had raped her at his native place. She was recovered from his village 5-6 days after the incident and he had managed to flee.

Ever since police had been on the lookout for Kumar, who carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, and had carried out raids, laid traps and even put phones of his friends and relatives on surveillance.

He was arrested after the cops received information that he would be visiting his family and laid a trap for him.

“A team of AATS staff laid a trap accordingly. Soon as Kumar reached the place, he was overpowered and arrested,”said a senior police official.

During interrogation he allegedly revealed that he had been hiding at several places in the adjoining states of Delhi for the past five years.

He has been booked under IPC sections 363 (Punishment for kidnapping), 366 (Kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 376 (Punishment for rape) and 327 (Voluntarily causing hurt to extort property, or to constrain to an illegal act).
