Man kills wife and son for dowry

In a shocking incident, a man killed his eight-month-old son and wife for not paying dowry in Vijayawada on Saturday.

According to police Akula Rajendra Prasad a native of Yerabalem in Guntur district who works as a medical representative, had married A Roja two years ago and he was given Rupees 5 lakh and 50 percent share of Roja’s house as dowry.

Prasad refused to take Roja home after she delivered a baby boy at her mother’s place and demanded that the entire house be given to him.

Prasad came over with two litres of petrol after his mother-in-law refused to give him family property on Saturday.

He then poured petrol on his mother-in-law KVenkatamma, at her home and set her alight and then he set Roja and his son Vidya Sagar on fire. The woman suffered 55 percent burns and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The infant and his mother died in the hospital after suffering from more than 70 percent burns, while Venkatamma is still in the hospital.

He is said to be having an affair with another woman and had been harassing Roja for more dowry. Police said that they had both quarreled over this issue on Friday.

Police is investigating the case and are register a case against Prasad for attacking his family.
