Ludhiana: A man was arrested for allegedly burning a holy book at Jeet Singh colony on the outskirts of the city today, police said here.

A passerby spotted some pages of ‘Gutka Sahib’ (small sized holy book containing hymns from Sikh scriptures) half burnt this evening at a vacant spot in the colony and then raised an alarm, police said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a man, who was residing in the colony, burnt his old books among which was a holy book as well, ADCP-II Shalinder Singh said.

“We are verifying the authenticity of the book,” the ADCP added.

The police have taken the man in custody, though his identity was not disclosed.

However, they have ruled out any foul play or conspiracy behind the incident.

Meanwhile, tension gripped the area and heavy police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
