Man flees before marriage; bride seeks Collector’s help

Tiruvallur (TN): Hours before tying the knot, a 22-year-old man today fled from the marriage hall, prompting the distressed bride to rush to the Collectorate here and submit a petition to the Collector, seeking action.

The 20-year-old woman from nearby Puthu Gumiddipoondi was in love with Vivek for sometime, a resident of Sullurpetta, about 85 km from here in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The duo had fallen in love when they met in an educational institution here.

The wedding was scheduled for today in a temple in Sullurpetta. However, the groom disappeared from the hall soon after he turned up and the bride’s family was told by his kin that he was not interested in the wedding.

The shocked bride and her family members rushed to the Collectorate, where she submitted a petition to Collector Veera Raghava Rao, seeking action.

“The woman has sought appropriate action. She wants the groom to see reason, she is seeking reconciliation so that the wedding can take place,” a District official told PTI.

District social defence officials are looking into the matter.
