New Delhi: A 63-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide by pouring kerosene over himself at a pavement near the Parliament premises today, following which he was detained by the police.

According to the police, the incident was reported in the evening, when the man, a resident of northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, deboarded a bus and walked towards the fountain facing the Parliament premises.

He stood on a pavement and allegedly started pouring kerosene over himself from a can. The police team deployed at the high-security zone stopped the man and later he was detained.

It is suspected that he was going to set himself on fire. However, the motive behind the act could not be ascertained yet. He was later taken for a medical examination, said a police official.
