Malaysian Imam slapped by a man during Friday prayers

Kuala Lumpur: The Friday prayer at the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur was interrupted after a man slapped the Imam when he was reciting prayers.

It is learnt that the Imam, Mohd Zuhairee Mohd Yatimwas reciting the Surah Al-Fatihah during prayers when a foreign-looking man walked to the front, pushed him and slapped him right across his face causing the imam’s head to hurt, the Malay Mail Online reported.

The man was later apprehended by the mosque security guards as he tried to flee the scene.

“The man even tried to lead the prayers. However, the mosque’s personnel managed to intervene and stop him. He was then handed over to the police,” local district police Chief Asst Comm Zainol Samah said.

The man appeared to be mentally unstable and was talking to himself. “He told us that he heard a voice telling him to be the imam,” said Asst Comm Zainol.
