Malaysia awaiting debris verification results

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia is awaiting a verification as to whether the debris found on Reunion island is from the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 flight, Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said on Saturday.

“As of today, I haven’t received a detailed verification report,” Liow said.

“I would like to emphasise that we are waiting for the verification result and we hope it can be done as soon as possible,” Xinhua quoted him as saying.

“In the meantime, let’s not speculate on anything.”

Deputy transport minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi on Friday said that he was informed that the piece of wreckage which washed ashore on the Reunion Island resembled a flaperon — a moving part of the wing surface — from a Boeing 777.

Liow remained cautious, however, saying Malaysia is waiting for a confirmation from French investigators.

Aviation investigators from a Toulouse-based body, the General Directorate of Armaments will analyse it next week.

Malaysia has sent two teams to assist the investigation, one to Paris and the other to the Reunion Island, he said.
