Makkah crane crash: Saudi govt officials among five found guilty

Jeddah: Saudi Arabia’s Bureau of Investigations and Public Prosecution (BIP), Jeddah have found five top engineering and technical officials guilty in the fatal crane crash accident at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Sept. 11, Arabic daily Al-Watan reported quoting the informed sources.

As per reports published in Al-Arabiya, the sources did not divulge the names of the engineers and technicians, but the preliminary information indicates they will be charged.

BIP found conclusive evidence against engineers and technicians from the Binladen Company also including government officiasl of their involvement in the fatal incident.

A probe had been ordered as soon as the tragedy struck that killed at least 107 people and wounded 238 others.

The results of its investigations will be forwarded to the main BIP office, Jeddah to compile the list of charges against them.

The firm’s officials have been forbidden from leaving the Kingdom until the completion of legal action against the company.
