Major push for ‘Make in India’ as PM Modi to meet top Fortune 500 CEOs

New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet top Fortune 500 CEOs today in a major push for his ‘Make in India’ programme.

In the first leg of his visit here, the Prime Minister will be dealing with the financial aspect during which he will meet the CEOs of various prestigious industries and groups.

He will also meet publishing mogul Michael Bloomberg and Mike Burke, Chairman and CEO of AECOM.

On Friday, Prime Minister Modi is lined up for a bilateral meeting with his Jordan counterpart Abdullah Ensour after which he will be called on by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

The highlight of the day will be Prime Minister Modi’s

statement at the UN Summit for the adoption of the post 2015 development agenda.

His bilateral talks will continue later as he is scheduled for meetings with the leaders of Bhutan, Cyprus and Sweden.

Saturday will begin with the important engagement of the G4 summit.

“After 2004, this is the first time that a G4 summit is being held and we regard this as very substantive and significant, especially in light of the fact that the UN General Assembly recently passed the decision calling for text based negotiation in the IGN format,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup told the media here.

After that, the Prime Minister will depart for San Jose where he would be interacting with Tesla motors and discuss their ‘path breaking’ inventions.

He will also meet Venky Shukla, President of Indus entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley.

His evening there will conclude with the dinner organised by Digital India and Digital technology, which is crucial for the flagship of the ‘Digital India’ programme.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister will be visiting the Facebook headquarters

“This is a very imp interaction because of what the social media can do. India is among the youngest countries in the world and our youth are engaging with social media in a big wig. His meeting with Mark Zuckerberg will provide and opportunity to see how we can take this forward,” Swarup said.

Google will be the next stop for the Prime Minister, where he will take a look at their inventions in the field of healthcare, smart grid and how Google can use its technological inventions to empower the ‘Digital India’ programme.

Prime Minister Modi will later attend a key round table on renewable energy which is being coordinated by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Stanford University.

“This will be a very important meeting as it will allow us to brainstorm on the possible options available to India in the area of renewable energy,” Swarup said to the media here.

Later, he will attend the India-U.S. start-up connect 2015, which is being coordinated by NASCOM. Some of the leading start-ups from India will be present.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit the SAP centre will be a major event as he will address the Indian community where around 20,000 people are expected to arrive.

This is the first time an Indian Prime Minister will be visiting California after 30 years.

On Monday, the Prime Minster is scheduled for a meeting with France’s President Francois Hollande, a call on by the President of the World Bank after which he is will meet President Barack Obama.

Later in the day, he will attend a leader’s summit on peacekeeping.

“India as you know has been historically the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations and this summit which is being called by President Obama will be an occasion for the peacekeeping universe to debate on what is the best way forward for international peace and security,” the MEA spokesperson said.

The Prime Minister will later meet Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine, after which he will depart for New Delhi.
