Lohardaga:The Election Commission today issued notification for the December 14 bypoll to Lohardaga (ST) Assembly seat while Ajsu party and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) announced their candidates.

The office of Chief Electoral Officer said the notification was issued for the bypoll and the counting of votes would be held on December 17.

The seat fell vacant after Ajsu party’s Kamal Kishore Bhagat lost his membership of the state Assembly following his conviction in a case of attack on a doctor.

A local court had convicted Bhagat and A Bodra on June 22 this year and on the next day it sentenced them to seven years in prison in connection with the 1993 case.

Ajsu announced Bhagat’s wife Niru Bhagat as its candidate from Lohardaga.

BJP and Ajsu fought the Assembly elections in alliance and the latter had won the Lohardaga seat in December last year.

Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) Principal General Secretary Pradip Yadav today announced in Ranchi that former Jharkhand minister Bandhu Tirkey would be the party’s nominee from Lohardaga.
