Liberation Day celebration is not anti-Muslim: Niranjan

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson G. Niranjan has defended his stand demanding official celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17.

“It is unfortunate that some people are trying to twist and give communal colour to my demand for the celebration of 17th September officially by Telangana State Government. We are demanding for the same for the last several years and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao himself demanded it in the past and questioned why State Government is not celebrating while neighboring Maharashtra and Karnataka states are celebrating it officially,” Niranjan said.

Niranjan said it appears that some vested interests were unable to digest the historical fact of Hyderabad’s merger in Indian Union even after 67 years and raising hue and cry. “When majority of political parties including ruling party are celebrating the occasion in their party offices, what is the hitch in celebrating it officially. Those who are criticizing me should come out openly how the official celebrations will be against Muslim brethren. It is not right to draw a line between the people of this region,” he said.

“Vested interests are trying to misguide and giving an impression that official celebrations was against the wishes of Muslim brethren. It is nothing but questioning the sovereignty of India. There should not be any compromise in respecting the Indian Sovereignty,” the TPCC leader said. (INN)
