LG asks officials to ensure steps taken to prevent water-borne disease

Puducherry: Lt Governor of Puducherry Lt General (retired) A K Singh has asked officials of various departments and also the Relief Commissioner to initiate immediate steps to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases in the wake of the torrential rains.

Addressing a joint meeting of officials of the PWD, Local Administration, Health and other departments to review the relief measures taken, he said that there should be constant monitoring of the situation.

A release from Rajnivas said at the end of the meeting that disinfectants should be sprayed in all the water-logged areas.

He also called upon the officials andsecretaries of various departments to constitute committees for supervising relief works.

He asked the Relief Commission to hold regular meetings with officials and review the progress of work.

Officials should also visit the coastal hamlets and implement relief works and essential items should be available in the relief camps, the release said.

Chief Secretary to Government Manoj Parida, IG of Police Praveer Ranjan, Relief Commissioner V Candavelou and secretaries to LAD and other departments participated in the review meeting.

Singh directed that necessary number of water pumps should be deployed to bale out the water from low lying areas.

Singh is Lt governor of Andaman and Nicobar islands and is holding under additional charge the post of Lt Governor of Puducherry since July 17 last year.
