LeJ may be behind suicide attack on Pak’s Punjab Home Minister

Islamabad, Aug 15 : Preliminary report suggests Lashkar-e-Jhangvi’s (LeJ) possible involvement in the suicide attack, which left many people, including Pakistan’s Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada, dead in Attock, it has been reported.

As per sources, the preliminary report suggested that the attack was in retaliation for two major actions of Punjab Police in the province, The Express Tribune reported.

An insider said that the attack was in reaction to the killing of LeJ chief and a senior al- Qaeda commander for Punjab last month.

Malik Ishaq, the founder of LeJ, was killed along with 13 others, including his two sons, in a ‘gunfight with police’ on July 29.

Khanzada was killed in a suicide attack on his political office in Shadi Khan village near Attock today.

Khanzada, who assumed charge of the Punjab Home Ministry in October last year, had been actively involved in major operations against terror outfits.

Several others lost their lives in the blast.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan have condemned the attack.

The rescue operations are currently underway. (ANI)
