Lecturer booked for alleged misbehavior with two students

Puducherry: A lecturer of the government women’s polytechnic college here was today booked for allegedly misbehaving with two students.

Police said one of the victims was a minor and she had earlier lodged her complaint with the Child Welfare Committee which presented the case to police after recording her statements.

Police received complaints from the other girl and registered cases against the lecturer Karunakaran based on both complaints.

Karunakaran attached to the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in the institute had been booked under section 11 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and also under IPC sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).
