Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose
Provide technical DBA support within a large dynamic and fast paced financial services company supporting many large scale databases. Participate in build services and day to day operational support activities delivered through the DBA team. Database platforms will include: Oracle (primary), and SQL*Server across: Sun Solaris, Linux and Windows operating environments. Install large-scale databases, tuning and maximizing performance of the RDBMS building highly

Essential Responsibilities:

Proactive and Reactive monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of critical issues
Managing multiple business initiatives through all phases of the project lifecycle including, estimation, scheduling, design, construction, testing, and operational readiness release into production.
Ensuring best in class operational support of the DBA domain based on defined Service levels including: on-call schedules, escalation procedures, timely response and resolution of issues, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), preventative action follow-through, participation in weekly operations reviews, and regular reporting on system availability.
Providing 7 X 24 on-call for the Oracle DBA environment including managing the trouble ticket queue, responding to proactive monitoring alerts, execution of change controls, routine maintenance, shell scripting, performance monitoring, Oracle tuning, and system diagnostics
Working with 3rd party vendors and the onsite based database architect and team members to escalate and resolve issues as expeditiously as possible.
Participation in all on-going initiatives including: Software Currency, Database/Server consolidation, Security hardening / Patch currency, and Monitoring process improvements.
Project Estimation process including attending project kick-offs and design reviews as necessary to appropriately size new environments, recommend database solutions and deliver associated cost and resource effort estimates
Developing strong working relationships with GDCs and onsite IT teams.
Adherence to process, standards and practices in environment
Participating in the evaluation, recommendation, and prototyping of new solutions
Regular proactive capacity planning and trending reviews of all Databases
Remote participation in Disaster Recovery drills
Maintaining detailed technical documentation (e.g. standards, process, Run Books)

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline
Minimal 6 years of experience in Oracle database Administration preferably in Solaris and Linux.
Experience in Oracle 11G
Strong knowledge of data structures, data dictionary, and Oracle RDBMS server technology including: latches, system waits, resource allocation, table and index partitioning, Cost Based Optimizer (CBO), parallel query option, database security, data archiving, DataGuard replication, and high availability RAC/TAF clustering.
Familiarity with following Oracle concepts: Locally Managed Tablespaces, UNDO segments, Automatic Storage Management (ASM), Automatic Segment Space Management (ASSM), Synchronous and Asynchronous I/O.
Ability to interact with programmers and assist in SQL tuning efforts
Broad experience in configuring, optimizing, and administering Large Transaction based environments.
Use of tactical Oracle administration tools such as: OEM, HP Openview DBSPI, Toad, etc.
Strong Hot Backup solution experience using: RMAN or related means.
Experience planning and tracking projects at least 4-6 months in duration
Innovative team player with strong analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
Solid organization skills and an ability to effectively handle concurrent aggressive assignments
Effective in communicating (Oral and Written) facts, issues, concerns and solutions in an appropriate and professional manner.
Internal candidates should have completed 18 months in the organisation and 12 months in their current role
Internal Candidate Should not be currently under PIP or CAP

Desired Characteristics:

Experience in Oracle Database 12c
Experience Administering Oracle RAC clusters under VERITAS VCS is a strong plus.
Experience designing for Transparent Application Fail-over (TAF) within RAC clusters
Oracle Application PL*SQL experience
Experience with large databases of the size of 50TB is preferred.
Experience with SQL Server database 2008/2012
Familiarity with Oracle database disaster recovery using EMC RecoverPoint technologies is a plus
