Launch awareness campaigns on Jan Dhan scheme: Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday directed officials to launch awareness campaigns, especially through mobile phones, to educate people about the benefits of opening Jan Dhan accounts.
“In course of his review today (Wednesday), the prime minister reviewed grievances related to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. He directed that awareness campaigns be launched, especially through the medium of mobile phones, to educate people about the benefits available to them through the Jan Dhan accounts,” an official statement said.
The prime minister also reviewed the progress of Aadhar card enrolment and asked all chief secretaries to work towards providing benefits through the mechanisms of Jan Dhan accounts and Aadhaar cards, to the extent possible, so that leakages are reduced, and people are benefited.
The prime minister’s remarks came while chairing his seventh interaction through ‘PRAGATI’ – the ICT-based, multi-modal platform for pro-active governance and timely implementation here, the statement said.
Modi also reviewed grievances related to railways, especially sanitation related issues, and was briefed on steps being taken to ensure cleanliness, both in stations and on trains.
He also reviewed the progress of fencing on the India-Bangladesh border. “Asserting that there can be no compromise on an issue of national security, he asked the chief secretaries of all five states which share borders with Bangladesh, to work towards early completion of this project,” it said.
The prime minister sought updates on the progress of infrastructure projects in the highway, railway, power, coal and airport sectors spread over several states including Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Goa.
