Krishna, Godavari to quench Hyderabad thirst: KCR

Chief Minister K Chandraekhar Rao today directed the officials to construct special reservoirs to cater drinking water needs of Hyderabad from Krishna and Godavari.

At a high level review meeting at camp office here, KCR asked them to ensure that there is no dearth of drinking waters to the people in the twin cities, industries, companies and business establishments through a plan of action to address growing needs in future. He said that existing 1.42 crore people in the twin cities and adjoining areas now need 42.58 tmc waters in a year. Including lakes, reservoirs and Manjeera waters and coupled with two rivers the availability of waters is put at 32 tmc he said adding that arrangements should be made to overcome the problem.

Stressing the need for enacting a right of way Act as it was done in case of Water Grid he said that Palamur Lift water will also be used for drinking waters in the twin cities. When he rang up for speedy permissions avoiding hurdles for the works related to waters, officials of national highways authorities and Railway department responded positively. KCR asked for speedy completion of works to extend tap connections to every household while the existing number of taps is put at 9 lakhs in the city and outskirts.
