Kidman wins praise after London premiere of ‘Photograph 51’

London: Nicole Kidman was unanimously acclaimed on Tuesday by British critics after the premiere of her play “Photograph 51”, which brought her back to the London stage after 17 years.

The Oscar-winning actress plays British scientist Rosalind Franklin, the only woman related to the discovery of the structure of DNA in 1953.

Her performance was described by The Guardian as intelligent and commanding, while Michael Billington, critic for the newspaper, only regretted that the play was not longer.

The Daily Telegraph said Kidman’s acting displayed once again her power to hold an audience in thrall, while The Independent said she captured the defensiveness, the dedication, and the emotional longings of the scientist.

“Photograph 51”, directed by Michael Grandage, will be staged until November 21 in the Noel Coward Theatre in London.
