Kerala govt to name science fest gold trophy after Kalam

As a mark of respect, Kerala government today decided to name the gold trophy for the winners of the state school science festival, after former president late A P J Abdul Kalam.

The trophy will be known as A P J Abdul Kalam Gold Cup, state Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb said here in a release.

The trophy would reflect the unique contributions of the ‘people’s president’ in different fields and the concepts of major areas he had associated with, he said.

The gold cup, designed by eminent sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman, is expected to be readied in three months, he said.

Though the government had earlier planned to launch the trophy during last year’s ‘School Sastrotsavam’, the science festival, it could not materialized as the sculptor had prior engagements.

The trophy is being designed after collecting one rupee each from school students across the state. A total of Rs 44 lakh had been collected in this regard, the release added.

The Kerala State School Sasthrolsavam is touted to be the largest science fair for students in Asia region.
