Kerala CM slams Delhi Police, condemns ‘beef raid’ on Kerala House

New Delhi, Oct. 27 : Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy on Tuesday slammed the Delhi Police for barging into the Kerala House in the national capital along with the Hindu Sena activists over charges of ‘beef’ being served, saying it was not some ‘private’ hotel but a government establishment where they had created a commotion.

“The Delhi Police should have shown restraint. It was not some local restaurant running for profit but an official guest house where they barged into. It’s a place where the Chief Minister and other important ministers and dignitaries stay. And even if some sort of complaint arises, there is a proper procedure before action is taken. Clearly, the Delhi Police is not under their government’s control, but under the Centre’s,” Chandy told the media here.

The Kerala Government has lodged a protest against the Delhi Police and Hindu Sena activists, who barged into the Kerala Bhawan protesting against the ‘beef’ that was on the menu.

“The Resident Commissioner of Kerala Government will be complaining to the DCP against the miscreants, who tried to gate crash and create problems in the Kerala House. It’s a lie that cow meat is served here, the beef that is served is buffalo meat, for which there is no ban. It is served here because of public demand,” Kerala Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson said.

Congress leader Tom Vadakkan also lashed out at the Delhi Police and accused them of indulging in ‘moral policing’.

According to reports, Delhi Police has claimed that they initiated action after getting a PCR call from a right-wing group. The police went to the Kerala House to carry out a precautionary check, but found nothing. (ANI)
