Kejriwal’s father undergoes heart surgery

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s father Govind Ram Kejriwal today underwent heart bypass surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital here.

According to hospital sources, Kejriwal’s father was rushed to Apollo today morning after he complained of chest pain.

“He was admitted in the early hours of today morning and underwent coronary artery bypass grafting. He is admitted in the ICU. His condition is stable and he is recovering well,” the sources said.

Govind Ram Kejriwal is undergoing treatment under Dr Bhaba Das, a senior consultant of cardiac surgery at the hospital.

In coronary heart disease, waxy substance called plaque (plak) builds up inside the coronary arteries restricting the blood flow to the heart muscle by clogging the artery.

If not treated on time, the plaque may rupture and lead to the formation of a blood clot. The clot can completely block oxygen-rich blood flow, leading to heart attack.
