KCR favours TS varsity Act, more chancellors

Stressing the need for clothing powers to the State government to go in for need-based appointment of chancellors to various universities instead of one monitoring all, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today directed the officials to prepare a Special University Act for the State to set the things right. He expressed discontent on the alleged irregularities in the varsities and governance which is going awry in recent times.

In a high level review meeting with his deputy Kadiam Srihari, Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy and officials at camp office here on Tuesday, KCR felt that the State government should have adequate powers to appoint chancellors to various varsities based on the priorities and requirements of the State. “Instead of one chancellor for all the varsities, better we appoint them with experience and expertise as chancellors to varsities to cater to the State needs on priority basis”, he said.

KCR also said health education should be brought under Education sector as is the case of technical education wing while higher education will be a nodal agency for all varsities. He asked the officials to prepare guidelines for appointing chancellors and registrars and constitute search committee for the purpose. The Chief Minister has taken a decision appointing Prof Yadaiah as registrar of JNTU. (NSS)
