Kavita blames previous regimes for farmers’ suicides

Telangana Jagruthi president and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha today lashed out at the previous governments for the ongoing suicides by farmers in the State.

Addressing the media at TRS Bhavan along with sportswoman Gutha Jwala and others, Kavitha alleged that the sin of previous regimes was still haunting the peasants. Successive governments deliberately ignored irrigation projects in Telangana State leading to this chronic problem, she said, adding that Congress and Telugu Desam rulers did not give water to crops in the region and threw the farming community into a gloom, she alleged. The lapses of the previous governments are still plaguing the farmers to end their precious lives, the MP charged.

The Opposition parties’ leaders have no right to criticize the TRS Government, Kavitha said. In the one year rule, the TRS Government not only resolved the problem of power crisis, there was no dearth of fertilizers and seed in the State now. The TRS Government was completing the projects to supply irrigation waters to crops, she said.

Kavitha also said some noted sportswomen like Gutha Jwala, Sania Mirza and Pragnan Ojha came forward to help farmers. So far, 171 families of deceased farmers were given ex gratia, she said, adding that Jagruthi will start giving financial assistance to 80 families from November 1. Kavitha appealed to the people to shoulder the responsibility of providing help to the families of farmers. (NSS)
